Aluminum Expansion Joint Cover Profiles

Aluminum expansion joint cover profiles for floor, wall, and ceiling movement joints.

Product Overview

Buildings move. Thermal expansion and contraction, foundation settlement, seismic activity, and live load deflection all cause relative movement between different parts of a building structure. Expansion joints are designed into buildings to accommodate this movement without causing cracking or structural damage. The expansion joint cover profile is the architectural finish that covers the joint, protecting it from damage and providing a clean, finished appearance.

In Southeast Asia's tropical climate, thermal movement is particularly significant. A 50-meter concrete slab will expand and contract by approximately 25mm over the annual temperature range of 15–40°C. Without expansion joints and proper covers, this movement would cause cracking in the floor finish, walls, and facade. With properly designed expansion joints and covers, the movement is accommodated invisibly.

Our expansion joint cover profiles are available for floor, wall, and ceiling applications. The floor covers are designed to withstand foot traffic and light wheeled loads, with a low-profile design that doesn't create a trip hazard. The wall covers are designed for both interior and exterior applications, with weathertight versions for exterior walls. The ceiling covers are designed for suspended ceiling systems, with a spring-loaded mechanism that accommodates movement while maintaining a flush appearance.

The movement capacity of our standard expansion joint covers is ±15mm — sufficient for most building applications. For larger movements (such as in long-span structures or seismic zones), we can supply covers with ±25mm or ±40mm movement capacity. The movement is accommodated by a sliding mechanism within the profile, which allows the cover to move with the joint while maintaining a consistent appearance.

System Interfaces, Fabrication and Delivery Controls

Architectural profiles must be bought as an interacting system. Frame, sash, glazing bead, gaskets, hardware, drainage and finish need to be checked together rather than ordered as isolated section shapes.
