Aluminum Skylight and Roof Glazing Profile System

Aluminum skylight and roof glazing profiles for natural light and architectural feature roofs.

Product Overview

Natural light transforms a space. A building with good daylighting feels larger, more welcoming, and more productive than one that relies entirely on artificial lighting. Skylights and roof glazing are the most direct way to bring natural light deep into a building — and aluminum profiles are the structural system that makes it possible.

Skylight design is more demanding than vertical window design because the profiles must manage water drainage (gravity works against you on a sloped surface), thermal expansion (temperature swings are larger on a roof than on a wall), and structural loads from snow (in cooler climates) and wind uplift (which acts upward on a roof, unlike the lateral loads on a wall).

Our skylight profiles are designed with integrated drainage channels that route water to the gutter system without allowing it to pool on the glazing surface. The drainage channels are sized for the high rainfall intensities of tropical Southeast Asia — up to 100mm/hour in extreme events. The profiles include a thermal break option for buildings where condensation on the interior face of the skylight would be a problem.

The structural design of skylight profiles must account for the combined loading of the glass weight, wind uplift, and (in some climates) snow load. Our standard skylight profiles are designed for glass panels up to 1,500mm × 3,000mm and wind uplift loads of 2.0 kPa. For larger panels or higher loads, we can supply structural versions with deeper profiles and thicker walls.

Skylight profiles are available in PVDF fluorocarbon coating as standard for outdoor applications, providing 25-year color retention in the tropical UV environment. The coating is applied to both the exterior and interior faces of the profile, ensuring a consistent appearance from both sides of the glazing.

System Interfaces, Fabrication and Delivery Controls

Architectural profiles must be bought as an interacting system. Frame, sash, glazing bead, gaskets, hardware, drainage and finish need to be checked together rather than ordered as isolated section shapes.
